Wick Academy 3 Strathspey Thistle 0

Scorers: Macallum (27og) Mackay (60) Anderson (71)

Wick Academy had to work hard for victory against Strathspey Thistle but their dominance eventually told to pick up all three points at Harmsworth Park.

The Scorries took the lead when Steven Anderson's cross from the left wing found Marc Macgregor in the box whose shot hit the post but clattered against goalkeeper Michael Macallum's body to cross over the line for an own goal.

Wick almost went 2-0 up just before half time when Sam Mackay was fouled 25 yards from goal. The midfielder curled his free kick over the wall and out of reach of the goalkeeper but smacked off the crossbar.

Richard Macadie should have doubled Academy's lead at the start of the second half when he missed an open goal from 10 yards.

But Danny Mackay eased the home side's nerves when he beat the Jags defence in the air to nod a corner kick into the net with a bullet header from 10 yards.

The game was put beyond doubt in the 71st minute when Jack Henry sent the ball through the centre of defence and found Steven Anderson who beat the offside trap and fired into the bottom left corner from 12 yards.
