A young Caithness woman has raised £1000 for Pulteney House by selling pebble artwork as a special tribute to her grandmother who passed away recently.

Zoe Sutherland (24) came up with the idea of creating unique rainbows on heart-shaped pieces of slate to help raise funds for the Wick care home where her nana Jemmie Sutherland was a resident.

She said: "I have witnessed first-hand how excellent the staff at Pulteney House are through their care of my nana. I'd like to thank them all again for taking such good care of my nana and making her as comfortable as possible in her final few years.

"My family and I will be forever grateful to all members of the staff at the home."

The cheque was handed over last week as a token of appreciation for all the hard work carried out at Pulteney House during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Zoe's grandmother passed away during the coronavirus crisis so the funeral was restricted to only close family members. As they were unable to carry out a collection at the time for the care home, Zoe came up with the idea of raising funds from her own pebble work business.

The family were delighted with the support shown by the people of Caithness and beyond to Pebble Art by Zoe, particularly at such a difficult time for everyone.

Zoe, who is based in Thurso, has been kept busy at home creating unique pebble pieces for her customers and she is looking forward to seeing what the future holds for her small business, which was established in October 2019.

She says her work has been going from strength to strength and she is astounded at the recent feedback from the slate heart rainbows.

Her creations, which are customised to suit the individual, can be found on Facebook and Instagram. Zoe was one of the many local artists and crafters who took part in the virtual Caithness market held last weekend.
