Youngsters urged to get snapping
BUDDING Caithness snappers could get a chance to become the Junior Scottish Nature Photographer of the Year.
The Scottish Nature Photography Awards, which runs an international photographic competition for adults, has this year introduced a junior category for under-18s.
Those taking part can enter up to five images, each of which may be on any nature subject, including wildlife, landscape, wildflowers and the environment. The photos must be taken in Scotland.
Organiser Niall Irvine said: “We know that many of today’s most successful landscape, wildlife and environmental photographers say that their interest in nature was sparked at a young age. We hope that the junior competition will be a good focus for encouraging young talent.”
As well as the title of Junior Scottish Nature Photographer of the Year 2011, the winner will receive a one-week family self-catering holiday on the shores of Loch Moidart, courtesy of Waterside Breaks and Roshven Farm Chalets. The winning images will also be featured in a touring exhibition and Portfolio Yearbook.
The closing date for entries is November 30 and entry fee is £3 for five images. More information can be obtained at www.scottishnaturephotographyawards.com
