Young Bower man admits sex chat with 13-year-old girl

A young Bower man has admitted having sent a 13-year-old girl a series of sexual messages online.

Ewan Deering (21) will be sentenced on March 19, after Sheriff Neil Wilson considers a background report.

The court at Wick heard that he engaged the girl in conversation, on three social media links, between February 1, and April 30, 2022, and was initially under the impression she was 16. Deering was 19 at the time. The girl subsequently informed him she was 13.

Fiscal depute Grant McLennan said that during the sexual traffic, Deering made reference to the teenager’s breasts and thighs and told her he “couldn’t wait until she was 16.” The police were informed and interviewed her.

Mr McLennan said: “She gave them a full account and access to the messages she had received.”

Deering, of Halcro, Bower, was later arrested, co-operated with officers and was cautioned and charged.

Bail was granted by Sheriff Wilson who cautioned that it was the accused - not the court - who was responsible for placing himself on the Sex Offenders Register and warned: “Failure to do so is an offence.”
