A Met Office yellow warning for ice will remain in place for Caithness and the rest of northern Scotland until 10am on Wednesday.

Patchy ice is expected to develop on untreated surfaces as rain and snow eases this evening.

There were significant accumulations of snow in many parts of the far north overnight on Monday.

The wintry conditions led to the postponement of all three Highland League football matches scheduled for today, including Wick Academy's local derby against Brora Rangers at Harmsworth Park. It was called off this morning due to a snowbound pitch.

The teams are due to meet at Brora's Dudgeon Park next Tuesday.
