A Wick writers' group has been welcomed into the Scottish Association of Writers.

The "Write Place 2b" group, based in the Rumblin' Tum café outside Wick, welcomed the association president Wendy H Jones to its latest meeting.

Ms Jones, who is the author of the DI Shona McKenzie crime series set in Dundee, presented a talk and a workshop.

The Scottish Writers Association was established 50 years ago to help writing groups across Scotland network with each other.

Now the Write Place 2b is part of that network and, as founder and Rumblin' Tum owner Glyn Salisbury says, the group is keen to expand its growing number of writers.

He said: "Wendy came up and gave a good presentation as well as some pointers on writing techniques.

"We're delighted to be part of the Scottish Association of Writers and look forward to networking with other groups across the country.

"The group meets up every fortnight in the café, the next meeting being on January 29 at 7pm.

"We have around 14 members and the group is open to all types of writers. Whether you write novels, short stories, plays or poetry, you will be more than welcome to come along.

"The group has already published two books – both compilations of the writings of our members, titled Mysterious Chronicles I and II. We will have a third one out soon – Mysterious Chronicles III. We also produce a monthly magazine.

"We help develop members' writing skills through tips, advice and workshops. We also advise on publishing and marketing of members' written works.

"We also encourage members with their writing and create a friendly atmosphere where we can write and debate."
