FROM lions to ladybirds and from foxes to felines, animal characters from children's stories provided plenty of inspiration for pupils at Mount Pleasant Primary School in Thurso as they joined in the World Book Day celebrations.

The youngsters decided to dress up as an animal from a book and they produced some very colourful and imaginative costumes.

Meanwhile, P1-4 pupils have been doing a project on plastic pollution this term to help Marina the mermaid. They made books in small groups using Book Creator, a digital tool, and launched them on World Book Day.

Tying in with the theme of the project, two mermaids from Thurso Players – Julie Kedward and Maeva Donaldson – visited Mount Pleasant for a storytelling session. They told the tale of the Selkie Bride, about mermaids living as seals and removing their skins.
