THE new Highland Council offices and revamped town hall in Wick are on target to be completed by early next year.

The £8.5 million projects at Market Square and Bridge Street respectively are on course to be open to the public by February.

Morgan Sindall was awarded the contract to knock down the previous council offices, with the exception of the curved section at Stafford Place in High Street, which is listed as category C by Historic Scotland.

Staff were moved out to temporary offices in Girnigoe Street and High Street in August 2012, and demolition began in May last year.

The new building is being constructed on three floors to the front (the refurbishment of Stafford Place) and two floors at the Market Square section.

Thurso firm O’Brien Construction was awarded the contract to refurbish the town hall when work began in September and is due to be completed early next year.
