A Wick woman has denied assaulting her former partner in a local nightclub that recently had its licence suspended.

Sarah Jane Scolley pleaded not guilty to four charges and will stand trial at Wick Sheriff Court on January 27.

The 39-year-old is accused of punching her ex Lewis Wright on his head to his injury at the Waterfront nightspot on October 3, and three further offences at his home in Bayview, Wick, on October 9.

These allege that Scolley, of Kirkhill, Wick, smashed two windows, assaulted Mr Wright by attempting to punch him, behaved in an abusive manner and threatened to kill him.

The Waterfront nightclub at The Shore, Wick, was put under surveillance by police after a series of alleged assaults went unreported by management.

At a meeting of Highland Council's licensing board at the end of last month, members voted to suspend manager Robert Sutherland's licence for four weeks after police claimed he "wasn't fit" to hold it.

Mr Sutherland was also said to have obstructed efforts by the police to review CCTV footage.
