First online auction for Fishermen’s Mission
THE Fishermen's Mission in Scrabster welcomed its new mission port officer and the charity organisation has just launched its first online auction of gifts.
Jackie Dodds said she was delighted to take on the position and is looking forward to making contact with anyone with a fishing connection.
"They could be an active or retired fisherman, for example, or anyone that served in the Merchant Navy or Royal Navy is welcome to get in touch," she said.
Established in 1881, the Fishermen’s Mission is the only national charity that works solely with fishermen and their families. The mission also provides a 24/7 emergency service for fishermen who are taken ill or have an accident at sea as well as vital and unique support for the families of fishermen who are lost at sea.
Jackie is keen to highlight the the charity's first online auction of gifts and experiences which sees more than 50 items up for grabs including a family ride on the Harry Potter steam train, a day with a professional artist, luxurious food hampers and self-catering cottage holidays.
"The Castle of Mey very kindly donated a cookery book featuring the Queen Mother's favourite recipes and Joyce Patience has donated a week's stay, next April, in her holiday cottage in Cromarty. It's a beautiful, warm and well-equipped house that sleeps seven and is close to the sea. Bids start at £350."
Every item that is successfully bid on raises funds for the Fishermen's Mission. To register and start bidding go to www.fishmishauction.org.uk/auction

"Don’t leave it too late", Jackie added. "Bids must be in by Friday, November 1."
