A YOUNG local woman has set up a Thurso-based business that uses complementary therapy to help improve the performance and mobility of horses as well as prevent injury – equine massage.

Rebecca Farrall, who combined her passion for horses with her entrepreneurial spirit after receiving support from Business Gateway Highlands, recently launched Freedom2Move.

It is the first to offer the holistic approach to horse care in the Caithness and Sutherland area.

The 20-year-old said: "Horses gain so much from massage, it really is amazing to see the difference one session can make to their performance and temperament. In the past local horse owners have had to bring experts up from Elgin and Perth to provide the service so I decided it was about time that a local business offered equine massage to the growing number of equestrians living in the region.

"Because I grew up surrounded by horses I knew I wanted to start a company that focused on their wellbeing but I needed help to turn my idea into a reality, so I approached Business Gateway for support. I’d been told how helpful the organisation was and my development officer has been like a personal business mentor, giving me all the advice and support I need. The workshops have also been essential and helped me understand exactly what I need to do to make this a venture a success."
