A Wick woman claimed that she had been "forced" to steal tools from a shed in the town.

Robyn Miller (28) said that a man told her if she carried out the crime he would not give evidence against her over an unrelated offence.

Miller was caught "red-handed" in the shed in Waverley Road, Wick, in the early hours of April 4, by police who had received a tip-off from a neighbour.

She was said to have been holding a hammer and a wrench when the officers appeared, Wick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday.

Miller, of Glamis Road, Wick, admitted attempting to steal the tools, as well as a record of offending.

Her solicitor Megan Anderson said that the accused had been going through a bad drugs-related spell at the time but was due to begin a 14-week rehabilitation programme at Beechwood House in Inverness next month.

Sheriff Ian Miller deferred sentence on Miller until January 24, to allow her to successfully complete the course.
