A Lybster woman has denied causing the death of a two-year-old boy by careless driving.

Sonya Henderson (45) pleaded not guilty to the charge at Wick Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

The indictment alleges she failed to maintain proper observation causing her Nissan Quashai to enter the opposing carriageway and drive into the path of a Peugeot 208 and collide with it.

Henderson, of Main Street, Lybster, was injured in the accident on the A99 at Occumster, on August 22, 2021.

Ashley Mackay, a passenger in the Peugeot, was said to have suffered serious injuries and another passenger, the two-year-old boy, Iain Mackay, was severely injured and subsequently died.

Henderson will stand trial on January 23.
