THE recent Arctic blast may not have been everyone’s idea of fun, but one puppy had the time of his life.
Three-week-old springer spaniel Bosun received a chilly reception during his first taste of the outdoors when he was being taken for his first-ever walkies during the recent spell of wintry weather.
But the adorable little pup couldn’t get enough of the white stuff and he happily frolicked around in his new surroundings.
The puppy was taken for his walk at Rumster Forest by his owners, Tracy Chisholm (34), and her husband David (29), from Mid-Clyth, when the Far North experienced its first snowfall of the season.
To mark Bosun’s first-ever walk, Mrs Chisholm took along her camera.
She said that she is not usually an active photographer, but thought that it would be worth taking some pictures of her puppy experiencing an unknown environment.
She said: “Bosun was only born last month and had recently finished his course of injections, which all puppies receive when they are born.
“This was the first time we had ever taken him for a walk and I thought it would be a good idea to take pictures to mark the occasion.
“Obviously, there had been a bit of snow the previous evening, so David and I thought that it would be a good idea to take him up to Rumster Forest.
“It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining despite it being quite cold, and we walked through the paths.
“The snow was quite thick, but Bosun absolutely loved it and, as you can imagine for puppies that age, he was very excited to see snow for the first time.”
The couple decided to name the puppy Bosun because of Mr Chisholm’s occupation as a navy officer based at Vulcan, with the name meaning a petty officer aboard a ship who controls the work of other seamen.
Mrs Chisholm, who works at Dounreay as a duty planner for Northern Constabulary’s civil division, is a self-proclaimed pet enthusiast. She is the proud owner of two cats, two rabbits and several tropical fish, all of which stayed in their warm home during Bosun’s first venture into the outdoors.
