Win tickets to see The Dangleberries at Thurso's Y-Not!
BAGPIPE rockers The Dangleberries are to play in Thurso’s Y-Not venue for the first time this summer.
The 10-strong group has been delivering rousing performances – blending vocals, guitars, drums and pipes – across the country since forming in Castle Douglas in 2001.
They promise to bring a mixed set to Caithness on June 21, featuring their own material, both songs and instrumentals, along with well-known and, at times, unexpected covers – Boney M’s Daddy Cool being a good example.
Their music is mainly rock influenced but written to complement and fuse with the skirl of the bagpipes.
Y-Not Bar and Grill owner Isla Mackay is excited at the prospect of the forthcoming gig.

“I’m delighted to confirm The Dangleberries for June. They have been playing at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival in Beauly for a few years now and always attract a massive crowd to the main stage,” she said.
“I have met them every year at Bella – being camped up next to them, it’s always been a good laugh and have talked of getting them to Thurso many times and now it’s happening. It’s sure to be an amazing night.”
The band recently celebrated more than 10 years of gigging – a feat which has taken them from London to Wick with many music venue and festival appearances in between. Highlights include regular festival main stage performances at The Wickerman, near Kirkcudbright, Belladrum, and Loopallu in Ullapool.
The Dangleberries’ sound has evolved over the years as can be heard from their first two albums, A Richt Guid Horkin, a live recording in 2007, followed by Nae Sleep Tae Regent Street released in 2009 with tracks being played on national radio.
Their long-awaited third and entirely studio recorded album, Plugged In, was launched last July and reflects a transition from acoustic to electronic bagpipes in 2011.
This was a conscious decision to embrace new technology which looks and sounds every bit as good as traditional pipes, requires the same level of skill to play but offers greater versatility from a musical and live performance perspective.
This album incorporates nine original tracks and four covers, and was a year in the making.
Tickets, priced £8.50, for June will be available from Y-Not.
Ahead of the summer performance, North of Scotland Newspapers is teaming up with Y-Not to offer one lucky reader two tickets for the show.
