Win a stay at Noss Head lighthouse keeper’s cottage thanks to ‘The Fisherman’s Gift’

A stay at the lighthouse keeper’s cottage at Noss Head, just outside Wick, has been chosen as a prize to celebrate a new book being published called ‘The Fisherman’s Gift’.

Waterstones booksellers and Vintage Publishing have teamed up to create the prize draw as Julia Kelly’s new book is released.

Set in a snow-bound Scottish fishing village in 1900, the arrival of a mysterious boy who resembles the schoolteacher’s long-lost son reveals past griefs and present mysteries. The publisher describes it as “a haunting tale of love, loss, and redemption”.

Ben Makin, owner of the lighthouse keeper’s cottage, said: “We are delighted to be associated with this lovely and atmospheric book, and to offer this prize to readers, welcoming the winner to the lighthouse keeper’s cottage at Noss Head.”

Ben fell in love with Caithness when she came here in 2017. “The longer I live here, the more I love the unique heritage and landscape, as well as the people,” she adds.

Waterstones chose the lighthouse keeper’s cottage partly because of its setting, on a headland, with views of the sea on three sides.

The competition is open to anyone who successfully orders and pays for a hardback copy of The Fisherman’s Gift by Julia Kelly on the Waterstones website before the closing date of midnight on March 26.

The cottage was once the home of the principal lighthouse keeper and his family at Noss Head. With a gold award for Green Tourism, and four stars from Visit Scotland, the cottage has three bedrooms and offers welcoming accommodation for couples and families from Scotland and around the world.
