A WICK pub owner has fitted a life-saving device in his premises and has raised money to have another situated on the Pulteney side of the town.
Callum Reid, who runs the Camps Bar, began charging weekend entry fees of £2 around a year ago for those coming in after 10pm.
The extra funds were collected for various good causes in Wick and Thurso such as the Town and County Hospital, Wick lifeboat, MFR Cash for Kids, the Royal British Legion (Thurso branch), the Laurandy Centre, a defibrillator for the Wick Academy football ground and Mount Pleasant school.
Last week, Callum and his staff proudly unveiled the Camps Bar's new defibrillator – a device used to restart a heart. Located just inside the premises, the device is accessible for anyone in the surrounding area to use.
And, going a step further, Callum and his team have now presented a cheque for £500 to Graeme Doull of Sinclair Butchers to assist them in providing a defibrillator for the Pulteneytown area.
Callum said: “It’s only down to the support and generosity of each and every one of our loyal customers, and the dedication of our door supervisors who work hard collecting in the fees over the weekends, that we are able to continue to support worthy local causes within our community.
"Not only does your £2 make a difference to many local people, now it might just save a life.”
