A WICK woman has given up her career in the science industry to start her own chocolate business.

After working for STEM North of Scotland promoting science, maths and engineering subjects to young people, Ruth Falconer has started a new company called Caithness Chocolate.

After a completing an expert chocolatier course in Peebles, Miss Falconer (29) hand makes all her products which she sells online.

"The secret of doing a job you love is doing something for free," she said. "If I could do that I would sit around and eat chocolate all day. So I decided to start off my chocolate business as I don’t think there is anything like it in Caithness."

Miss Falconer started her business two weeks ago and is already trading at the Nethercliffe Hotel and at various shops in Caithness.

She hopes if the business is successful, she will be able to buy a shop at John O’Groats as part of its redevelopment.

In the meantime, she will be holding a tasting session at the Nethercliffe Hotel in Wick on Wednesday, September 21, between 7pm and 9pm.
