Highland Council is seeking to rent out parts of Wick Town Hall as office space.

Offices measuring nine, 16 and 27 square metres are available, costing from £2000 a year.

The town hall was built between 1826 and 1828 to serve as the burgh chambers.

Property details listed on the council website point out that a courtyard to the rear contained two prison blocks. These were later demolished and extensions have since been added.

"The property has a range of rooms available to suit the needs of a small or medium-sized business seeking affordable office space or a hub in the north of Scotland," the website says.

It describes the Bridge Street complex as "ideal for businesses" because of its central location.

Rent will be inclusive of utilities, while tenants will be responsible for rates.

Viewing is by appointment during normal office hours and the letting particulars are available on the council website.

A spokesman said: "The smallest space in the particulars had been previously let out to the BBC, and the assessor also leases a part of the building. This is not the first time the council has sought to rent the spaces."

In August last year it emerged that the annual utility costs of the town hall came to almost £20,000 with a gas bill of £5185, electricity charges of £2145, water at £1294 and rates of £11,000.
