Conservative MSP Edward Mountain organised the event for July 23 “in response to the sheer volume of correspondence which I receive daily.”

The development is another indication that the intensity and speed of development as well as the planning process is leaving many residents unhappy.

Previously, more than 50 community councils called a convention in Beauly which attracted hundreds of attendees to voice their deep concerns.

They worry that they are being ignored both by the Scottish Government and Highland Council, while raising issues about community benefit.

Responding to that, Mr Mountain said: “I have long said that it is essential we do not sacrifice the Highlands on the altar of Net Zero.

“I agree with the convention’s findings that our communities need to be not only protected, but also properly compensated, when renewable projects are built in their area. The most important thing is that they are not ignored.”

Addressing the meeting in Wick, Mr Mountain said: “I am looking forward to hosting the open meeting on energy infrastructure at the Assembly Rooms in Wick on Wednesday July 23.

“The meeting came about in response to the sheer volume of correspondence which I receive daily regarding the deluge of BESS sites, pylons, wind farms, and other energy and renewables infrastructure in the Highlands.

“I thought it only right that I should meet with constituents on my July surgery tour to address their concerns directly.

“The meeting will inform my work in the Parliament in the coming months. I will be sure to follow up any serious issues highlighted by constituents with energy companies, Scottish Ministers, and any other relevant bodies.

“Tickets are free and available on my website. I would urge constituents with an interest to come along, listen, and have their voices heard.”
