Another summer spruce-up is being planned for Wick ahead of the town's annual gala week.

Organiser Allan Bruce, vice-chairman of the Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council, is hoping it will be as successful as last year when more than 50 volunteers carried out a range of tidy-up tasks around the riverside and town centre.

The spruce-up is scheduled for Tuesday, July 18, with Wick Gala Week taking place from July 22-29.

Mr Bruce told fellow community councillors at their June monthly meeting: "We got rained off the first night [last year] and came back a second night, and I think it really did make a difference to our town centre. I am keen to have that again on the 18th of July."

An area of the town taking in parts of Union Street, Bank Row and River Street is "in dire need of some tender loving care", he added.
