Pupils at Newton Park Primary School have been collecting goods to donate to the local food bank.

As part of the school's Love and Kindness Week last week Newton Park pupils collected items to donate to the Wick branch of the Caithness Food Bank.

A total of 504 items were collected over the week, along with a large number of carrier bags.

The food bank weighed the donation and informed the school it amounted to 201.6kg.

Mr Cormack, P6/7 teacher and acting deputy head, and family link worker Mrs Sinclair took members of the school’s Rights Respecting Schools group to the food bank to make the donation.

Grant and Pat Ramsay, chairman and vice chair of the food bank were there to accept the donation.

They also spent time with the group, showing them around the food bank and explaining how they organise and prepare food parcels for those who use the service.

A spokesperson for the school said: "The generosity our school community has shown through the donations made this week has been amazing.

"We are delighted to be able to support the Caithness Food Bank so that they can continue supporting those who use their service."
