Wick’s refurbished public conveniences are on course to be up and running by next month, four years after they were shut.

Work is nearing completion on the £395,000 scheme at Whitechapel Road. As well as new fittings, upgraded services and a new roof covering, the revamped block will include showering, baby-changing and locker facilities.

A Highland Council spokesperson said this week: “We are just in the process of completing final snagging with the contractor and hope to be open in May.”

In November, Highland Council leader Raymond Bremner said the new facility was looking “fantastic” as work continued at the site.

The local authority announced in March 2023 that a contract had been awarded to Norbloc Construction to carry out the full refurbishment of the toilets. They have been closed since early 2020 after being targeted in a series of acts of vandalism.

Toilets are available nearby through the comfort scheme within the Norseman Hotel.
