FIVE workers from Wick’s Spice Tandoori restaurant were arrested on Thursday evening during a raid by Home Office Immigration Enforcement officers.

This is the second time in less than a year the restaurant at The Shore has been found harbouring illegal immigrants.

A 28-year-old Nepalese and four Bangladeshi men, aged 31 to 35, have been detained pending their removal from the country.

Last year six Bangladeshi men aged between 28 and 41 were arrested after being found to be working at the Spice Tandoori illegally.

Unless proof is provided that correct right to work checks were carried out the owner of the business will be fined up to £10,000 for each illegal worker employed.

During the intelligence-led operation on Thursday, officers arrested 11 other Bangladeshi men working illegally in Kirkwall.
