Wick pop rockers set for festival
WICK-based band Always the Sixth will become the first Caithness band to perform at the RockNess music festival when they line up with some top names this weekend.
The four-piece pop-rock group, featuring Iain Henderson on guitar, Craig Jappy on bass, vocalist Niall Gallagher and drummer Gregor Cowie, will be appearing on the same bill as Kasabian, Paolo Nutini and Mark Ronson.
The young Caithness musicians are looking forward to what will be a big event, as Henderson explained: “When I found out that we were selected to play at RockNess I immediately contacted the rest of the band who are all as excited as me. The line-up includes some huge acts that we’re hoping to catch over the weekend but we’re more focused and looking forward to performing at such a large festival.
“This is a great opportunity for us and it looks like it’s going to be a promising start to our summer.”
Always the Sixth will have a 20-minute slot and will be performing their own material, including three new songs.

The band has been rapidly gaining exposure on the music scene with its songs achieving a place in Moray Firth Radio’s play list and numerous appearances on Caithness FM.
It has previously released the three-song EP, Brand New You, and is currently working towards a mid-July release of new material.
“There’s a yet-to-be-announced festival appearance secured and we are also working hard to gain more live dates throughout Scotland this year,” said Henderson.
Last year, the band played at the popular alternative festival, Belladrum, and the Wick festival, B-Fest, where it was well received by enthusiastic crowds.
“We enjoyed performing at Wick’s up-and-coming music festival, B-Fest, and we hope to make the bill this year,” Henderson added.
Always the Sixth will appear on the RockNess Sound City stage tomorrow evening.
