Wick Players are hoping for a good turnout from the public for their double bill of entertainment during gala week.

The amateur drama club will put on an evening of two one-act plays in the Assembly Rooms on Tuesday, July 25.

Wick Junior Players will be taking to the stage for the first time in a number of years with a production of A Dog's Life by Pam Valentine, directed by Frances Yellop and set in an animal shelter.

Cast members Lily Sutherland, Jasmine Dunnet, Kara Howden, Frankie Thurling, Anya Hetherington and Leona Dunnett will be making their stage debuts with Wick Players.

The juniors have been faithfully attending youth nights at the club's base that started at the beginning of the year.

Some of the well-known adult members will be putting on a short comedy called Painless Extraction, by Jean Taylor Smith, under the direction of Jayden Alexander.

The cast features Jenny Szyfelbain, Marney Bruce, Margaret Thomson and Jane Taylor. This will be Jane's second production with Wick Players.

Jenny, the club chairperson, explained: "It's a comedy set in a dentists' waiting room in the 1950s, early ’60s era, with costumes and dialogue to suit.

"We haven't Caithness-ised it – I'm a Glasgow wifie. It's just a wee study of life and the little idiosyncrasies of folk."

Tickets are on sale from The Flower Patch in River Street for £10 (no concessions). Tickets will also be available on the door on the night of the performance.

Doors open for the performance at 6.30pm, with curtain up at 7pm.

Meanwhile, Jenny is looking forward to making her 40th appearance in the Wick gala night procession. She said: "I'm quite chuffed with my track record."

Wick Gala Week runs from July 22-29.
