Wick optician nominated for top award

A Wick optician who has looked after the sight of local residents for the past six years, has been nominated for a top optometry industry award.

Ian Morris, optometrist director at Specsavers in Wick has been nominated for Optometrist of the Year at this year's Optician Awards.

He is one of only six of optometrists across the UK to be shortlisted for the accolade.

Ian, who has worked with Specsavers for 18 years, starting in a pre-reg role in Inverurie, followed by working in Montrose, Arbroath/Dundee and finally in Wick, where he has been director of the store there for six years.

Ian, who has worked with Specsavers for a total of 18 years, recently completed his NES Glaucoma Training (NESGAT), meaning he is now fully qualified to better support patients with glaucoma.

The Optometrist of the Year Award recognises optometrists who use their skills to enhance the lives of patients, colleagues and the community, and of those optometrists who work hard to forward the profession, as well as going the extra mile for patients.

Ian said: "It is an honour to be shortlisted for this award. Caring for our customers is at the heart of what we do at Specsavers.

"I am always looking for opportunities to add to my qualifications so I can help more people in the community. Winning the award would be amazing but even being shortlisted in the top five is simply fantastic."

The ceremony takes place on November 30, at the Hilton, Park Lane in London.
