A Wick man who crashed his motorbike was four times over the drink-drive limit, the town's sheriff court heard.

John Kershaw (51) was fined £600 and banned from driving for three years after admitting the offence.

The court heard on Wednesday that Kershaw had come off his motorbike near Hastigrew, on the B876, on June 28, last year. He was breath-tested positive at the scene and a blood-alcohol sample revealed a level of 203 milligrams – the legal limit is 50 milligrams.

Kershaw, of Robert Street, Wick, apologised for having driven with excess alcohol and added that he was relieved no-one else was involved in the accident.

Sheriff Mark Lindsay explained that because Kershaw had committed his second similar conviction within a 10-year period, he was bound to impose the mandatory disqualification of three years.
