A Wick man has been jailed for four months for possession of two lock knives.

David Macgregor (43) pleaded guilty when he appeared at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

The court was told that the accused was on his way to put the knives in a shed, at his home at Osbourne Close, Wick, on December 6, last year, when he was caught by police investigating an unrelated crime there.

Macgregor was said to have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.

His solicitor, George Mathers, said it wasn't the case of Macgregor "going out to do someone harm" with the knives and made the point that the accused's record didn't include convictions for violence.

However, Sheriff Andrew Berry said that a custodial sentence was the only appropriate one for such an offence.

Macgregor admitted a further, unrelated, offence of having failed to provide a blood sample for police who suspected him of having driven with excess alcohol. The offence occurred at Wick Police Station, on July 8.

A fine wasn't imposed but Macgregor was banned from driving for a year.
