WICK lifeboat was called to help a stranded yacht on Thursday night.

The 10-metre vessel encountered engine problems 12.5 miles east of the North Head and a lack of wind left it unable to move.

The RNLI lifeboat launched at 10.06pm and proceeded to the scene on calm seas, said relief coxswain David Urquhart.

“He had engine problems and no wind to make his way by sail,” said the skipper.

“So he was basically broken down and becalmed. We made fast a tow and made good back to Wick and tied him up safely in the harbour.”

The coxswain described conditions as being clam and clear, and said it was a routine call for the station.
