AN OFFSHORE worker said he can’t remember entering a pub where he suffered severe facial injuries which kept him out of work for eight months.

Paul Aitchison could not recall how his head smacked against a flagstone floor at the Silver Darlings in Wick, leading to him being airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

He was giving evidence at Wick Sheriff Court on Monday during the opening day of the trial by jury of Craig Johnstone who is charged with causing him to fall and hit his head on the floor and lose consciousness, to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement and impairment at the nightspot on August 24, 2013.

Mr Aitchison was on his way home back to Aberdeen when he ended up having to stay the evening in Wick where he went out socialising.

He had no memory of how he was injured, not remembering anything between leaving a karaoke bar and waking up in an air ambulance.”

Mr Aitchison said the incident has affected his personal and work life which he said will take a long time to recover from.

The trial continues on Tuesday morning.
