Wick High to run classes in health and childcare

WICK High School is set to introduce two new subjects into its curriculum to offer students a wider range of learning that can be used in life after the classroom.

Health sector and early education of childcare are set to be introduced as part of the timetable next year.

Rector Thomas McIntyre said that it is important that the school could offer courses that would enable its pupils to gain employment in future years.

These are two kinds of courses that will help people find work after they leave school,” he said.

“North Highland College already does healthcare courses but we do not want to send our students to Thurso if we can offer them relevant courses here.”

The move comes after it was revealed that an increased number of young people are looking at future career in child and adult care.
