A WICK High School teacher has been named as Highland Council’s employee of the year.

Principal teacher of science Valerie May received her prize from council leader Drew Hendry at the annual quality awards, held at the Town House, Inverness, on Thursday night.

Mrs May’s nomination was presented by rector Thomas MacIntyre and endorsed by director of education, culture and sport Hugh Fraser.

Mrs May was asked to act as principal teacher of the department following the tragic death of head science and physics teacher Kevin Costello, who died in a car accident last year.
