Wick High School reveals list of prize winning pupils

WICK High School (WHS) has just announced its list of top students for 2019-20.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, it was not possible to hold the annual prize giving ceremony at the school.

The prize-giving evening normally gives WHS the opportunity to recognise and reward those pupils whose efforts and achievements have been exceptional.

This year the school was pleased to announce Coinneach Pellow as the WHS Dux for this session following his outstanding results in 2019-20. Coinneach achieved top A passes in English, maths, history, modern studies and psychology.

There are also four runners up who were awarded the John Geddes Shield for Proxime Accessit. Anais Gunn, Samuel Bullen, William Manson and Robbie Campbell also achieved five A passes in their chosen Higher subjects.

A WHS spokesperson said: "It is a testament to their dedication and hard work that they were able to work at such a high standard throughout a difficult year. We are extremely proud of their efforts and thank both parents/carers and all school staff for their support throughout session 2019-20."

This year’s winner of the David Lockie Memorial Prize for technical goes to Connor McAllan for his achievement in technical subjects. Connor is hoping to study structural engineering in Edinburgh.

The Kevin Francis Costello Prize for Endeavour in Science is awarded to David Whitworth for his work in electronics.

The BBM Solicitors Prize in English and social subjects also goes to Coinneach Pellow for his excellent work across English, history and modern studies.

Alan Mathieson was the recipient of the Subsea 7 Trophy for best technical pupil in S4.

Acting head teacher Sebastian Sandecki and the staff of WHS congratulate all the winners, and look forward to supporting further pupils throughout 2020-21.
