A QUEUE of sorts has already started outside one local hairdressing salon thanks to an entry in the Wick Gala scarecrow competition.

As hairdressers start preparations to open their doors again on July 15, this straw character is keen to be first in line for a long overdue haircut.

The eye-catching scarecrow, created by Jennifer Cowie, is situated in Argyle Square, Wick, across from Shear Klass, which is run by Vivian Macdonald.

"Personally the scarecrow made me smile, as I'm sure she did for many," Vivian said.

"Jennifer's idea was very appropriate in the current circumstances, especially with the announcement that hairdressers can open on July 15. Everyone can relate to this scarecrow's plight."

The salon owner explained that many customers were waiting patiently for the doors to open after going so long without hair appointments and local hairdressers were keen to resume business after lockdown.

Commenting on her scarecrow gala entry, Jennifer, who lives in Argyle Square, said: "It was topical and thought it would make people laugh in these hard times. The amount of people who stopped and have taken photos of it has been great."

Jennifer has made scarecrows for the gala before and said this one, although thrown together, has gone "kind of viral" on Facebook.

Some of the other scarecrows in and around Wick are featured in the selection below.
