A woman who cheated an elderly man out of £14,000 was said to have repaid him almost half the amount.

Wick Sheriff Court was told previously that Fiona Taylor has been paying Albert Millington back at the rate of £500 per month.

She initially lodged a lump sum of £2000 after she admitted defrauding the 88-year-old last December.

Taylor (66) of Glamis Road, Wick, got to know Mr Millington when she operated a taxi service in the town and began to run him about.

But she betrayed his friendship and induced him to give her the £14,000 between December 2015 and July 2016.

Taylor used the money to pay off her daughter's rent arrears and gambled away other amounts.

Mr Millington is now in a residential home in Wick and efforts are being made to appoint a guardian to look after his financial affairs.
