A group of volunteers bringing colour to Wick with flower planters and baskets will be holding an AGM at the start of February.

Wick Flowers Group (WFG) will be holding the meeting on February 5 at 7pm in the town's Assembly Rooms.

Despite the snow and storms, WFG is planning for warmer days ahead and summer planting. It also says it is happy to welcome new volunteers.

The group has had a busy year with the addition of new planters, fundraising events and bulb planting around the town. It says it "was honoured" to be chosen to decorate the King's tent at the Mey Games with one of its tubs, and received a donation from the organisers. The group has also been fortunate to receive generous donations from local businesses.

In addition, many locals gave donations to the volunteers expressing how much they have appreciated the efforts of the group, and "how beautiful the flowers looked".

Eswyl Fell from WFG said: "The group have lots of fun planting, and feel a great sense of pride when locals, and visitors, comment on the displays.

"There has been very little vandalism also this year, which has proved heartening. So, if you want to help make a difference to your town, come and join us! Even offering a day of your time to paint planters would be great."
