A COMMUNITY open day at Wick fire station to mark its 50th anniversary earlier this year raised £1000 for charity.

The money has been split equally between Caithness KLICS and Caithness FM's annual toy appeal, which is now in its 25th year.

Firefighter Robert Gunn presented the KLICS cheque to project manager Wendy Thain and her grandson Connor Macleod, who is also a young carer and part of the group, while temporary crew commander John Dunnett handed the Caithness FM cheque to Jackie and Bob Johnson.

Hundreds of people turned out for the anniversary event in September. Attractions on the day included the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service mobile museum as well as a range of stalls.

The event marked half a century since the station was built in Martha Terrace in 1969.
