Wick fire at derelict cottage

A ruined cottage near the Norseman Hotel in Wick was attended to by fire crews at 9pm last night (August 22) after smoke was seen at the site.

The derelict building, which had been burnt out years before, was a roofless shell and charred pieces of timber form last night's fire are visible within the structure.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.56pm on Tuesday, 22 August to reports of a building fire on Riverside, Wick.

"Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances to the scene, where firefighters extinguished a derelict building on fire. There were no reported casualties and crews left at 9.37pm after ensuring the area was safe."

The Wick-based crews used breathing apparatus during the incident and there was no danger to buildings close by or any reported injuries.
