The court heard that the 36-year-old was caught in a police speed trap on the Stainland straight on the A9 near Thurso.

Sheriff Neil Wilson observed that the accused had been offered a fixed penalty of £100 at the time of the offence but was unable to accept the option.

The sheriff remarked that Hindmarch, of Nicolson Street, Wick, was “lucky” to have been given the choice given the speed involved.
