Brandon Davidson passed a breath test after being stopped by police officers in Wick – but failed a drugs swipe.

A follow-up test revealed the 24-year-old was over the limit.

Davidson, of North Murchison Street, Wick, pleaded guilty at the town's sheriff court on Wednesday and was banned from driving for a year. He was also ordered to carry out 65 hours of unpaid community service within six months.

Police officers stopped Davidson in Martha Terrace, Wick, on November 2, last year. He was subsequently found to have a drug-driving reading of 3.7mcg of the cannabis-based Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol in his system. The legal limit is 2mcg.

Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said that Davidson had not appreciated how long the drug had remained in his system.

Sheriff Neil Wilson took account of the accused's early plea and limited financial resources.
