Police received a report of a suspected drink-driver and after they traced him he was found to be more than three times over the legal limit.

William Doull (66) admitted driving with excess alcohol and was fined £1200. He was also banned from driving for two years.

Wick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday that the report the police received expressed concern about Doull's driving in the early hours of September 10, last year, on the A99 Wick-Latheron road.

Tests revealed a blood-alcohol reading of 157 milligrams – the legal limit is 50 milligrams.

Doull, of Dunnet Avenue, Wick, told the court that he had made "a big mistake" and "deeply regretted" his actions.
