Sutherland, who appeared at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday, was said to have driven at an excessive speed on July 11 and gone onto the wrong side of the road. He has a previous conviction for drink-driving.

Sutherland will be sentenced on October 2 after Sheriff Neil Wilson considers a background report.

The sheriff warned him that all options would be open to him.

The accused, who gave his bail address in court as Glenurquhart Road, Inverness, is meantime subject to a temporary driving ban.
