A WICK couple are celebrating winning over £280,000 in the Euromillions Lottery.

John and Angela Sutherland matched all five main numbers and one lucky star in the draw which took place on Tuesday, June 7.

The pair had to wait five weeks to validate their ticket as John departed on the day of the draw for his offshore job with Schlumberger.

Speaking about hearing the news about their lucky win of £282,940.50, John said he was shell-shocked.

"My wife, Angela, checked our ticket the day after the draw, at which point I was working offshore," he said.

"When she called to tell me I just couldn’t believe it, I was in shock."

Full-time mother Angela said waiting for John to come back home from the rigs was the most excruciating wait she has ever had.

"Those five weeks felt like the longest of my life. I kept the ticket locked away in a safe, but kept going back to check the numbers again and again to make sure it was real."

The Sutherlands are Wick’s second lottery winners this year after Alastair Cameron and his wife, Isobel, scooped the £500,000 Thunderball jackpot in the National Lottery in March.

Both tickets were bought at the Tesco store in Wick.
