Wick Coastal Rowing Club in premises appeal

WICK Coastal Rowing Club is on the lookout for premises for storage and carrying out modifications required on its boats over the winter months.

Members have put their all into building two skiffs by hand but the problem they find is that trimming the boat and the oar designs in the coming months needs plenty of space and they are lacking in it.

They are keen for the boats to be ready to face competition when they return to the ever-increasing number of regattas open to the club.

This year the club has taken part in the Helmsdale, Ullapool and Shieldaig regattas, improving times and standing on each occasion.

The last event for the 2015 season is in Avoch in mid-November and the club will also be preparing to attend the world championships in Ireland in 2016.

The club’s AGM was held in the old herring mart last Friday where the chairman, Graham Robertson, congratulated members on another successful season of rowing and taking part in the regattas.

The sport is becoming more and more popular with communities building and rowing skiffs all around the British coastline and all over the world.

As well as Wick and Helmsdale, locally Golspie and Orkney are now building their first skiffs to hopefully take part in the fun next year.

The Wick club is keen to hear from anyone who might have a spare six metre by 10 metre serviced area from where it could operate in the winter months.
