Wick Co-op - major makeover under way to ‘transform’ community store with £2 million investment

Wick Co-op is set to be ‘totally transformed’ with an extensive eight-week programme of works and improvements under way.

The store – which is remaining open during the refurbishment programme – is located in Angle Park and is set to receive a near two million pound investment ahead of relaunching with a fresh new-look inside and out on Thursday, August 7.

Wick’s Co-op supports 16 local jobs, including vacancies available for customer team members to join the store.

Following the major makeover, the store will include Costa Coffee Express and a new serve-over counter from Inverness-based Harry Gow. This sits alongside a focus on fresh, healthy and chilled produce, food-to-go and meal deals, Fairtrade products, pizzas, flowers, ready meals, award-winning beers and wines, along with everyday essentials.

New refrigeration will enhance the Wick store’s fresh and chilled range, and also support its work to further cut its carbon footprint. Soft plastic recycling is also available, enabling shoppers to return harder to recycle materials such as crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals, biscuit wrappers and pet food pouches.

Parcel services will be added with an InPost Locker available for quick and convenient out-of-home parcel collection, and self-service tills are to be included for additional ease and speed for shoppers, especially at busier times. The store also includes a photo booth.

Member price savings create additional value for Co-op’s member-owners, with personalised offers for members and lower prices on the products shoppers buy most.

Discounts are also available in-store for Young Scot cardholders.

Daniel Simpson, Co-op’s area operations manager, said: “The whole team is delighted to invest in Wick.

“The store will be totally transformed with a fresh new look inside and out, and we are really looking forward to relaunching next month. We would like to thank the community for their understanding during the works.

“The store will include new services, including parcel collections, Costa Coffee and Harry Gow’s serve-over counter. We pride ourselves on being able to deliver the quality, choice and value which can be enjoyed by everyone, and we’re here to contribute to local life and conveniently serve and support the community of Wick.”
