Wick club members hear about healthy aspects of gardening

Wick and District Gardening Club's AGM was held on October 29 in the Nethercliffe Hotel where members enjoyed a Halloween lunch prior to the meeting.

The following office-bearers were elected: Chairperson, Doreen Turner; vice-chairperson, Maureen Miller; secretary, Virginia Miller; treasurer, Jeanette Coghill; press secretary, Doreen Turner.

After business had been discussed, James Walker gave a talk on pruning shrubs and talked about the healthy aspects of gardening.

His wife Jo then gave a demonstration on how to plant up a planter using the lasagne method which is all about layering, starting with bulbs and finishing with plants. James and Jo are club members.

The planter that Jo demonstrated was then added to the raffle prizes.

A guest visiting from South Africa was asked to judge the entries in a pumpkin competition. Results:1 Bunty Oliphant; 2 Jeanette Coghill; 3 Marna Stephen; 4 Gladys Gunn.

Tea and coffee was served.

The club's next meeting is on Tuesday, November 15, when a representative of Highland Council will give a talk on recycling.
