Youngsters in Wick will get the benefit of work carried out by clients of the criminal justice service who have been sentenced by the town's sheriff court to carry out unpaid work.

Childminders who have premises at the rear of Jack’s furniture showroom at Wick Airport Industrial Estate took receipt of a new set of interactive scales and large, brightly painted cartoon characters that will brighten up their outdoor play area.

Alison Green, who runs the childminders with Margaret Sutherland, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the new additions to our play area which will make the children we look after so happy."

Steve MacDonald, community payback officer for Caithness, said: "The work carried out by our clients on community payback orders in Caithness is designed to benefit the community they have offended against.

"They take great pride in carrying out work such as this in the knowledge that local youngsters will get pleasure from what they have created."
