A childcare service based at the Pulteney Centre in Wick wants parents to know about the full range of services it provides.

Pulteneytown People's Project (PPP) Early Learning Centre (ELC) has been operating at the Huddart Street building for a number of years and has put in place a number of changes after a care inspectorate report in March.

Julianne McKillop, registered manager at PPP ELC, said: "There's been a childcare department within the building since it was first opened.

"We want to advertise what we do as there are some people who may not know about some of our services. For instance, we have our funded nursery children for three and four-year-olds and we do our funded two-year-old placements. There's also 'pay as you go' where parents can put their children in for as little as an hour or two and just pay for the casual hours they want for childcare. If they have a hospital appointment, for instance, and they're looking for childcare they can phone and book in advance and pop them into us if we have the availability."

Julianne said that some of the town's parents may not know about all the services provided at PPP ELC and that it achieved nursery status two years ago. The centre can take 40 children and there are currently around 30 using the service on a regular basis.

"We're open from Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm. We're also open on Saturday (9am to 2pm) which I don't think a lot of parents know," she added.

The manager says that every parent can benefit from the service which runs all year round and through holiday periods as well. "There are also two-hour playgroup sessions in the hall in the morning, we have a breakfast club and an after school club and we can drop the child off or pick them up from the school. There's also a homework club and we give them their dinner here."

The staff members said the service is both "fun and friendly" and wished they had a similar service when they were children.

PPP ELC does not take children under two.
