Residents at Seaview House care home in Wick are ensuring they stay well informed on local issues by taking part in twice-weekly newspaper groups.

They like to keep up with what’s happening in the area as reported in the print editions of the Caithness Courier and John O'Groat Journal, published by Highland News and Media.

The group sessions, which are held on a Wednesday and a Friday, often lead to discussions on topics that are hitting the headlines. One example has been coverage of pothole concerns, which has generated a few opinions.

Seaview House activities coordinator Mandy Wilson said: “As soon as the newspapers get delivered, it doesn’t matter what they are doing – they stop and have a brief look at the headlines and then look forward to the group, where I read out the stories on each page.”

Resident William Cuthbertson said: “I look forward to the Courier and Groat being delivered as I like to see if there is anyone I know in it.”

Cathie Anderson said: “I can’t quite make out the writing, so it’s good we have this group so I can hear what’s going on locally.”

Seaview House is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers. The home provides care for 42 residents, from respite care to long-term stays.
